CAREER HISTORY:
Dad was a grasstrack rider and so I have always been into racing bikes. Dad built me a bike out of an old Honda C50 when i was 3 years old. I would ride it round after the grass meetings he did. As i got older I progressed onto bigger bikes and at the age of 11 I started to race grasstrack myself.
After nine years on the grass I decided to buy a bike for Speedway. The intention was to do a few second half races and maybe some Conference League meetings. In 2003 I made my debut for the Sheffield Prowlers and rode in their Trophy matches in 2004 when work and grasstrack commitments allowed.
After a year I decided to take up Sheffield's offer to join them in the Premier League for my first full season of professional speedway racing.
Towards the end of a successful debut Premier League Season I sustained a serious leg injury in a horror crash at Glasgow on 11th September 2005. At first Doctors believed my career was over and I underwent a series of operations to repair the damaged ligaments, tendons and muscles in my left knee, including a ligament transplant. A Winter of convalescing, physiotherapy and practice spins at Scunthorpe contributed to my recovery allowing me to be fit and ready for my return to ride for Sheffield for the start of the 2006 season albeit wearing a specialist brace to protect my injured knee.
Although I suffered both mentally and physically with my injury I gained valuable points home and away to assist Sheffield reach the Premier League Play off Finals and two Major Cup Finals.
My best away points haul was in our away win at Redcar in April scoring paid 16 on the unpredictable newly laid track.
My home performance of the season was a paid 17 return against the Isle of Wight in June.
In August 2006, I doubled up with Conference League team Scunthorpe Scorpions as cover for their injured Captain Wayne Carter. My first achievement for the Scorpions was winning the Conference League Best Pairs Meeting, riding with my Sheffield team mate Benji Compton. While riding for Scunthorpe we won an unprecedented amount of silverware, completing the Grand Slam at Conference level winning the League, Knockout Cup, Trophy and Shield. |

Jack Hirst:
Jack has been riding motorcycles since the age of 6, when he received a 50cc Yamaha
for his birthday, which he rode on spare land, he enjoyed that bike untill he got too big
for it. So we got him a 125 trials bike on which he learned clutch and throttle control.
His dad started watching speedway on t.v. and Jack said he would like to have a go,so we arranged to go to Sheffield training track, we hired all the equipment and had a go, Jack loved it, we went back each week untill he got the hang of it, we then bought him his own 125 Honda in a upright frame within 3 weeks he was riding it flat out and could not progress any more,. So we got him a 500 Jawa, that week Sheffield closed down.
We tried Stoke, Scunthorpe, Buxton but he struggled on these big tracks and he was loosing confidence,So we got in touch with Northside at Workington and they said bring him along and try here. since then he has come on leaps and bounds ,won a cup for best newcomer, been invited to Belle Vue practice which resulted in being invited to their pre season press and practice with a vue to getting on the Belle Vue Colts team.
